Migrant to stand trial in Moscow region for stabbing newborn 16 times and dumping body in trash bin

Law enforcement agencies in the Moscow region have completed their investigation and sent to court the criminal case regarding a brutal murder committed in the Serpukhov urban district. According to an official statement by the Investigative Committee of Russia and the regional prosecutor's office, a 29-year-old foreign national is accused of intentionally killing her child.

According to investigative materials, the incident occurred in February 2026 in a rented apartment in the village of Bolshevik, Serpukhov district. The woman, a labor migrant, gave birth to a live baby girl in the bathroom, but instead of seeking medical help, she inflicted at least 16 stab wounds on the newborn.

After the infant died at the scene from the injuries, the woman, attempting to conceal the crime, wrapped the body in a towel and dumped it at a waste container site in the courtyard of apartment buildings on Lenin Street. The baby's body was discovered by local residents two months later, on April 21, 2026. Although the crime could not be solved immediately, modern forensics and genetic testing proved decisive. Law enforcement agencies were able to quickly identify the woman because the suspect had previously undergone mandatory genomic registration (fingerprinting and DNA sampling) required for migrants entering Russia.

DNA samples taken from the scene and the infant matched the database records perfectly. During the investigation, the detained woman fully confessed to her crime, expressed remorse, and is currently being held in a pre-trial detention center. The Serpukhov City Prosecutor's Office has approved the indictment, and the materials have been sent to the Serpukhov City Court for trial. The woman will be sentenced under Article 106 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Murder of a newborn child by a mother).
