Organizers of illegal communication network for scammers to stand trial in St. Petersburg

Officers from the Main Directorate of the Russian Interior Ministry for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region have put an end to the illegal activities of two foreign nationals involved in a criminal group engaged in fraud. The 22 and 24-year-old individuals had set up a specialized communication hub for scammers in a rented apartment.

According to investigators, they were responsible for routing telephone traffic via GSM gateways and ensuring the continuous operation of the equipment. By inserting SIM cards received from handlers into the devices, they enabled scammers to call Russian citizens while posing as government officials. Through this method, the fraudsters coerced victims into transferring funds to accounts under their control.

During searches conducted by the police, 260 SIM cards, three GSM gateways, a laptop, a router, and bank cards were seized as material evidence. It has been established that through this technical support, over 4 million rubles were stolen from 10 citizens.

Currently, the investigation into the criminal case has been completed, and the indictment has been approved by the prosecutor's office. To ensure compensation for the damages, property belonging to the accused worth 500,000 rubles has been seized. The case has been sent to the Krasnoselsky District Court of St. Petersburg for trial.
