Migrant who tried to throw a police officer out of a car at 180 km/h sentenced to 4 years

Migrant who tried to throw a police officer out of a car at 180 km/h sentenced to 4 years

In the Orenburg Regional Court of the Russian Federation, an appeal was heard regarding an unusual criminal case. According to the court's decision, the prison sentence of a foreign citizen who attempted to escape during his forced deportation from Russia was increased from 2 to 4 years.

According to case materials, the previously unconvicted foreign citizen was found guilty of committing an administrative offense on Russian territory. The court did not limit itself to a fine and ordered his forced expulsion from the country (deportation).

To ensure the execution of this decision, the migrant was placed in a special center for the temporary detention of foreign citizens. However, he devised an escape plan with the help of his compatriots.

Having successfully escaped from the center, the migrant ran to the car of his girlfriend, a local Russian woman living in the Sakmara district, who was waiting for him on the street. However, the operative police officer chasing the fugitive, risking his life, managed to jump into the car's cabin in the seconds the vehicle began to move.

Despite the police officer being inside the car, the woman pressed the gas pedal to the floor, accelerating the vehicle to 180 kilometers per hour. A real nightmare began inside the car:

- The foreign citizen began to brutally beat the police officer and tried to open the door of the car moving at this terrifying speed to throw him out.

- The woman driving the car, without reducing speed, threatened to kill the police officer and, taking a screwdriver, struck his legs twice with great force.

Thanks to the courage of the police officer and a lucky coincidence, the officer did not fall out of the car, the tragedy was averted, the vehicle was stopped, and both criminals were arrested at the scene.

Belyayevsky District Court heard the case and announced the verdict at the beginning of July. The defendants tried to justify themselves by claiming that their actions did not pose a real threat to the life of the police officer. However, the court found them guilty of using violence dangerous to life against a public official.

At that time, taking into account that the woman had no prior convictions and had donated to a religious organization, she was sentenced to 1.5 years in a general regime penal colony. The migrant was sentenced to 2 years in prison. In addition, the court ordered them to pay the victim compensation for moral damages in the amount of 130,000 and 100,000 rubles, respectively.

Prosecutor's protest and final verdict

the Orenburg Region Prosecutor's Office considered these sentences too lenient given the brutality committed and demanded that they be toughened through the appellate court.

The Orenburg Regional Court found the prosecutor's protest fully legitimate. According to the new court ruling, the man's prison term was increased to 4 years (doubled). The sentence of the woman who was an accomplice to the crime was reduced by only one month compared to the first instance decision. This court decision is final and has been officially put into execution.
