Migrant who attempted to bribe official sentenced to 280,000 ruble fine and imprisonment

In the Mogochinsky District of Zabaykalsky Krai, a 39-year-old foreign national attempted to resolve issues related to migration legislation by offering a bribe. He offered an official 28,000 rubles to turn a blind eye to the presence of himself and 11 other illegal migrants on Russian territory.

The official categorically refused to accept the money and reported the incident to law enforcement agencies. As a result, a criminal case was initiated against the foreign national. During the trial, the defendant did not admit his guilt, claiming that he intended to pay the money as a fine and that the misunderstanding arose due to his lack of language proficiency.

However, the court did not take these arguments into account and found him guilty of attempted bribery. According to the verdict, the migrant was sentenced to one and a half years in prison. He was also fined 280,000 rubles, which is ten times the amount of the bribe.

This case serves as a reminder that in Russia, attempting to resolve issues through illegal means in the event of migration rule violations leads to severe consequences, including imprisonment and significant financial losses.
