Foreign migrant who attempted to bribe an official sentenced to 1.5 years in prison

During an inspection conducted at one of the greenhouse farms near Sosnovoborsk in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, it was discovered that a foreign national was staying in Russia illegally. The violation identified by migration service officers was punishable by an administrative fine.

Seeking to avoid the fine and remain in Russia, the foreign national entered the office of the head of the Berezovsky inter-municipal department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and offered him a bribe of 50,000 rubles. The law enforcement official rejected this illegal offer.

At the conclusion of the trial, a sentence was handed down to the individual who attempted to offer the bribe. According to the court's decision, the citizen was sentenced to 1.5 years of imprisonment in a general-regime penal colony.

This incident serves as a reminder that under Russian law, offering a bribe to an official is a serious crime, and the consequences can be much more severe than an administrative fine.
