Migrant accused of slandering a serviceman sentenced to 10 years in Russia

The Ivanovo District Court has announced the final verdict for a 29-year-old citizen of a Central Asian state. This individual, who had previously served time for extremist crimes, was this time found guilty of knowingly making a false report about the commission of a serious crime.

According to court documents, in January and March 2026, the convict, pursuing personal interests, filed false statements against a serviceman under Part 3 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (bribery). He accused the serviceman of systematically committing offenses.

As a result of a thorough investigation conducted by the Garrison Military Investigative Committee, it was determined that the witness's testimony was completely untrue and constituted slander. Consequently, the criminal case against the serviceman was officially closed, and he was granted the right to full rehabilitation (exoneration and compensation for damages).

For attempting to mislead the investigation and the court, the defendant was found guilty under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison. However, taking into account the unserved sentence for extremism, the final decision imposed a penalty of 1 year and 10 months of imprisonment in a strict-regime penal colony.

As an additional penalty, the court prohibited the convict from managing websites or engaging in administrative activities on the Internet for the next two years. The defendant was taken into custody in the courtroom.
