Number of crimes committed by migrants in Russia decreased by 39 percent

At a meeting attended by the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, an analysis of crimes committed by foreign citizens during the first 8 months of the current year was conducted. According to official data, in 2026, the share of foreigners in total crime decreased from 5 percent to 3 percent.

During the reporting period, about 18 thousand offenses committed by migrants were recorded, which is 39 percent less compared to the same period last year. It was also noted that the number of serious crimes committed by foreigners and persons illegally residing in Russia, including murders, rapes, and robberies, has halved.

At the same time, the number of crimes committed by ethnic groups increased by 13 percent. According to the Investigative Committee, such groups are often formed by individuals from Central Asian and Transcaucasian countries. In addition, the number of cases related to the organization of illegal migration has increased to 3 thousand.

Offenses by officials in the field of migration were also in the spotlight. In 2026, 463 criminal cases were initiated against employees of internal affairs bodies. 217 cases regarding crimes in this area have been sent to court, which is 42 percent more than last year.
