Telegram lawsuits: what might change for messenger users?

Telegram lawsuits: what might change for messenger users?

Telegram has filed a motion in a Texas court (USA) to dismiss a patent-related dispute. According to court documents, the next hearing on the matter has been postponed until October 1.

The lawsuit was filed by the company QR Switch at the end of March. The plaintiff accuses Telegram of infringing on two patents related to the use of QR codes for logging into the application from other devices and is seeking damages. In turn, the messenger's lawyers consider the claim baseless and are demanding its dismissal.

If the court grants Telegram's motion, the proceedings will be closed without the plaintiff's demands being met. Otherwise, the case will move to the next stage. It is currently unknown how these events will affect the technical operations of the messenger.

At the same time, there are reports that Telegram has been fined over 38 million rubles in Russia for failing to comply with legislative requirements. These fines were imposed by Russian regulatory authorities and are complicating the legal status of the messenger's operations in the country.
