College director jailed following illegal stay of 37 Uzbek migrants

Viktor Sobolev, the director of the Muromtsevo Forestry Technical School located in Russia's Vladimir region, and his staff have been convicted on charges of organizing illegal migration and acting as intermediaries in bribery. The director and his accomplices were taken into custody in the courtroom.

The events began in May 2023. A contractor building the M-12 highway signed an agreement with the technical school to accommodate workers. However, the workers' legal stay in Russia had expired, and the migration service had refused to register them. Despite this, the director allowed 37 citizens of Uzbekistan to reside in the dormitory.

Three months later, the situation was discovered by regulatory authorities, and the 37 migrants were deported from the country. Additionally, the company's commandant was caught while attempting to offer a bribe of 100,000 rubles to the head of the migration department.

According to the court's decision, technical school director Viktor Sobolev was sentenced to 2 years in prison and fined 300,000 rubles. His subordinates were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 1.5 to 2 years and were also fined.
