Russian Interior Ministry accelerates procedure for imposing entry bans on foreigners

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has introduced a new procedure to accelerate the process of imposing or lifting entry bans for foreign citizens. Now, once a decision is made, the foreign national must be notified within three working days. Under the previous regulations, this timeframe was not clearly defined.

According to the new rules, the notification is prepared in duplicate. One copy is delivered to the foreign citizen in person or sent by mail, while the second copy is added to their personal file. Furthermore, migration control officers at airports, railway stations, and ports are now required to prepare the draft decision within 24 hours (previously, this period was two working days).

To expedite the process, the authority to approve the decision has been granted to both the head of the migration unit and their deputy. Additionally, the procedure for verifying information about the foreign citizen's family members residing in Russia has been abolished. It should be noted that the primary timeframe for reviewing a case regarding an entry ban or its lifting remains unchanged at 15 working days.
