Migrant suspected of fraud arrested in Chuvashia

In the city of Novocheboksarsk, Chuvash Republic, a 25-year-old foreign national has been arrested on suspicion of fraud. According to investigators, in order to sell a rented KamAZ truck, he wore the uniform of an officer of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) and posed as a government official.

The incident began on October 12. The suspect gained the trust of the truck owner by claiming he wanted to rent the vehicle for work at a penal colony. Following an agreement with the owner, he brought the vehicle to a parking lot in Novocheboksarsk for inspection, made a down payment, and obtained the keys. Subsequently, he sold the truck to another person for 1.9 million rubles.

The owner noticed via a GPS tracking app that the vehicle was heading to another region and contacted the police. The truck was found at a gas station in the Mari El Republic. There, it became clear that the buyer had also been deceived. The suspect was apprehended by law enforcement officers while attempting to leave the city.

The 25-year-old man confessed to the crime, stating that he acted under the instructions of a "curator" he had contacted via a messenger app. He claimed to have handed over the 1.9 million rubles to a courier. Currently, a criminal case has been opened against him under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and administrative materials have been filed for violations of migration legislation.
