In the city of Saransk, Republic of Mordovia, a 30-year-old foreign national has been sentenced to one year in prison for attempting to bribe a law enforcement officer. According to the court verdict, he will serve his sentence in a general regime penal colony.
The incident occurred in June 2026 during a raid at a construction site located on Pobeda Street in Saransk. During the inspection, it was determined that the individual was residing in Russia illegally and was engaged in labor activities without the necessary permits.
In an attempt to avoid administrative liability, the migrant offered a bribe of 60,000 rubles to an officer from the Migration Department of the Russian Interior Ministry. The police officer rejected the offer and immediately reported the incident to the duty unit. Following this, law enforcement agencies conducted an undercover operation.
The next day, the migrant was apprehended by officers of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) while attempting to hand over 25,000 rubles as a bribe. A criminal case was initiated regarding this incident under Part 3 of Article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted bribery), and the judicial process has concluded.
