Officers from the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia for the Novosibirsk region have detained a 52-year-old local resident suspected of fraud. According to investigators, the suspect posed as an FSB officer and demanded money from a 45-year-old foreign national who was under house arrest on charges of organizing illegal migration.
The fraudster promised to "close" the criminal case opened against the foreign migrant through his "high-ranking acquaintances." He demanded 2.5 million rubles for this "service." The suspect was caught by law enforcement officers while receiving the first installment of 1.5 million rubles.
The Investigative Committee of Russia for the Novosibirsk region has initiated a criminal case under the fraud statute. Currently, a preventive measure of house arrest has been applied to the suspect, and he faces up to 7 years in prison.
This incident serves as a warning for migrants to be vigilant. It should be remembered that individuals acting on behalf of law enforcement officials and offering to resolve problematic situations for money may be scammers. It is recommended to contact official authorities regarding any suspicious offers.
