Man sentenced in Russia for inciting violence against migrants online

The Zheleznodorozhny District Court reviewed an administrative case against 56-year-old Pavel N. The man was found guilty under Article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (incitement of hatred or enmity).

According to court documents, in November 2023, the defendant left a comment under a video on social media calling for the burning of migrants from Uzbekistan. Experts identified signs of incitement to violence in the post.

Furthermore, it was revealed that in October 2023, the defendant had also left comments inciting violence against participants of a rally in Moscow. During the trial, the man pleaded guilty, expressed remorse for his actions, and asked the court to consider that he has two dependents.

By the court's decision, Pavel N. was sentenced to 50 hours of mandatory community service. In determining the sentence, the fact that the defendant had already been held liable under the same article in January of this year was considered an aggravating circumstance.
