Police officer convicted in Russia for helping a foreigner stay illegally

According to the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Oryol region, a former senior district police officer of the Zalegoshchensky district internal affairs department was found guilty of abuse of office. During the trial, it was established that he held this position from February 2023 to April 2026.

The incident occurred in September 2024. At that time, the police officer was assigned to review administrative offense materials regarding a foreign citizen illegally staying in Russia. According to the investigation, at the request of an acquaintance, the officer did not enter this information into the Russian Interior Ministry's electronic database.

Following this, the former employee deliberately destroyed the investigation materials and did not submit them to the court. As a result, the foreign citizen avoided administrative liability. The court found the collected evidence sufficient to pass a verdict against the individual.
