Cases of money theft from passengers' carry-on luggage have increased on flights from Russia to the United Arab Emirates. Specifically, in just one week, passengers have lost more than 2 million rubles. Such incidents have become systematic and are occurring during the flight.
One of the latest incidents was recorded on September 14 on a flight from Moscow to Dubai. After the plane landed, a Syrian passenger discovered that 1,100 dollars and 1,700 dirhams were missing from his backpack. It was also revealed that two other passengers on the same flight had 10,000 dollars each stolen from their bags.
The criminals are very meticulous in their work. They leave small bills in place of the stolen large denominations, which causes passengers not to notice the loss immediately. A similar incident occurred on an Etihad Airways flight from Sochi to Abu Dhabi: a married couple discovered that only 113 dollars remained instead of 1,400 dollars.
According to the victims, the thefts are being carried out by professionals. They act during the flight, while passengers are not paying attention to their belongings in the overhead bins. For this reason, citizens flying on international routes are urged to keep their valuables and cash under control and not leave them unattended in overhead bins.
