On the Moscow Highway in St. Petersburg, a 30-year-old citizen of a Central Asian country offered a bribe to a law enforcement officer during the processing of a traffic accident. According to the Main Directorate of the Russian Interior Ministry for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, while inside the traffic police patrol car, the man offered the inspector 50,000 rubles.
The migrant offered the money to avoid administrative liability and measures related to expulsion from the territory of the Russian Federation. To hand over the bribe, he attempted to wrap the money inside a copy of the Criminal Code.
The inspector refused the offered money and detained the individual attempting to commit the offense. Currently, a criminal case has been initiated regarding this incident, and investigative actions are underway.
According to Russian legislation, offering or giving a bribe to an official is a serious crime and entails not only fines but also severe penalties, including imprisonment.
