The Kolomyazhskoye joint-stock company in Saint Petersburg has extended the employment contracts of 12 Indian citizens working at the enterprise until October 2027. These employees were hired last year as part of a pilot program; they have returned from vacation and are continuing their work.
The company's administration stated that they are satisfied with the performance of the Indian workers and that they have adapted to life and working conditions in Russia. Nevertheless, there are no plans to expand this pilot program. The city's Committee for Labor and Employment also reported that there are no new projects to recruit Indian citizens.
There is a labor shortage in the municipal sector of Saint Petersburg, with the city's street cleaner staff being on average 15 percent understaffed. For this reason, starting January 1, 2027, the monthly salary for street cleaners is set to start at 77,000 rubles, and for machine operators at 112,000 rubles. Additionally, commercial rental housing at below-market rates has been provided for 1,300 employees.
It should be noted that in 2025–2026, a number of restrictions were introduced in Saint Petersburg on foreign nationals working in sectors such as taxis, courier services, retail, medicine, and beauty salons. However, the profession of a street cleaner is not included in these restrictions.
