Medical examination period for migrants in Russia reduced to 30 days

A new federal law aimed at improving migration policy has come into force in the Russian Federation starting from September. According to these changes, foreign citizens arriving in Russia for a period of more than three months are now required to undergo a medical examination within 30 days of entering the country. Previously, this period was 90 days.

The new rules aim to strengthen health monitoring of foreigners. Specifically, administrative liability has been introduced for those who evade medical examinations. Furthermore, criminal penalties for the forgery and circulation of medical certificates confirming the absence of infectious diseases have been tightened. Authorities state that these measures will allow for the prompt expulsion of migrants from the country if dangerous infections are detected.

According to the Russian Interior Ministry, in the first half of 2026, nearly 100,000 migrants were expelled and deported from Russia for violating legislation. Additionally, 200,000 foreign citizens were banned from entering the country, and about 800,000 individuals were added to the register of controlled persons.

Since 2024, the Russian State Duma has adopted 32 federal laws in the field of migration. These laws are aimed at expanding the capabilities of law enforcement agencies to combat illegal migration.
