Over 1,200 migrants expelled from Russia from Nizhny Novgorod

According to the Federal Bailiff Service of the Nizhny Novgorod region, more than 1,200 foreign citizens who were illegally present on Russian territory were expelled from the country during the first eight months of 2026. Officials note that this figure is twice as high as in the same period last year.

According to Natalya Stepina, a representative of the Bailiff Service, the majority of those expelled are citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Armenia. Citizens of Cuba, Congo, India, and Vietnam were also recorded. The figures for migrant expulsions have been steadily increasing over the last three years.

Experts explain the acceleration of the process by the simplification of procedures. In particular, if a foreign citizen is willing to purchase a travel ticket at their own expense, they are expelled from Russia within 72 hours.

It should be recalled that under Russian law, foreigners who violate the rules of stay in the country or have expired documents may be subject to administrative liability and mandatory expulsion. Migrants are advised to keep their documents and the grounds for their legal stay in Russia under constant control.
