Medical screening of migrants may be tightened: LDPR requested data on HIV

Representatives of the LDPR party have appealed to the Russian Interior Ministry and Rospotrebnadzor, demanding the provision of precise data on HIV infection cases identified among foreign citizens between 2023 and 2026. The party is also interested in the number of migrants whose temporary residence permits have been revoked due to this diagnosis, as well as the results of epidemiological analysis.

Party leader Leonid Slutsky noted that during the first nine months of last year, nearly 4,500 cases of diseases dangerous to others, including HIV, were recorded among foreign workers. The politician emphasized that medical examinations should not become a mere formality for obtaining certificates, and that screenings must be aimed at identifying actual diseases.

It is worth noting that under current regulations, labor migrants staying in Russia for more than 90 days and foreigners with temporary residence permits are required to undergo mandatory annual medical examinations. The LDPR leadership insists on the need to strengthen legal liability for evading medical check-ups or falsifying certificates, as well as strictly enforcing measures to revoke permits and deport individuals from the country.

This initiative implies that medical control procedures for migrants may become more stringent, and checks during the processing of medical certificates may become more thorough. Migrants are required to monitor their health status and undergo the mandatory annual medical examinations established by Russian legislation in a timely manner.
