Russia extends deadline for transition to electronic medical records

Russia extends deadline for transition to electronic medical records

The Russian Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for the full transition to electronic personal medical records until September 1, 2027. This was announced in the amendments made to the relevant ministry order. Previously, the transition process was scheduled to be completed by 2026.

According to this decision, employers and employees will be able to use paper-based medical records for another year. It is worth noting that medical records are mandatory for individuals working in the fields of food production, drinking water, child education and upbringing, as well as communal and household services. This list includes many professions such as chefs, teachers, educators, and hairdressers.

Additionally, the list of data included in electronic medical records has been expanded. Information about the employee will now include fields for citizenship and gender. These changes are being implemented to ensure integration with the information system of the digital profile of foreign citizens.

Experts believe that the digitalization of medical records will strengthen control over medical examinations and help prevent the issuance of forged documents. The full transition to an electronic system is intended to ensure the transparency of medical examination processes and limit the activities of institutions that issue illegal medical certificates.
