According to the Yekaterinburg City Education Department, a total of 4,300 children of foreign citizens studied in city schools during the 2025/2026 academic year. A total of 1,239 children participated in testing conducted to determine their level of Russian language proficiency.
According to official data, 64.5% of those who took the test confirmed a sufficient level of Russian language proficiency. Students who did not pass the exam were directed to Russian as a foreign language courses for subsequent re-testing.
The city administration has organized special study groups in 13 schools to develop language skills. The groups are formed based on the child's age and language proficiency level. Last year, 270 students completed these courses, 233 of whom successfully passed the final test.
Of the remaining 37 children who did not pass the test, 12 returned to the courses to continue their studies, and 23 returned to their home countries.
