Foreign citizens who have obtained a work patent in Russia must notify the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) about the commencement of their labor activity within two months from the date the document was issued. Failure to comply with this deadline or to provide notification in the prescribed manner will result in the automatic cancellation of the patent. In such a case, it is impossible to reinstate the patent, and all documents will need to be processed from scratch.
Notification of the commencement of labor activity can be submitted in three ways. The first is through the "Gosuslugi" portal (provided you have a verified personal account), the second is by visiting the local MVD office in the region where the patent was issued in person, and the third is by sending it via "Pochta Rossii" as a registered letter.
To submit a notification via the "Gosuslugi" portal, you must log in to the system and select the appropriate section. The user is required to enter passport details, the patent number, employer information (company name or TIN), details of the employment contract and medical insurance policy, as well as upload a copy of the contract. Once the data is submitted, the Russian MVD reviews it within one business day.
If errors are detected in the notification, the system may issue a rejection. In this case, it is necessary to correct the deficiencies indicated in the message and resubmit the application. It is crucial to complete this process within two months from the date the patent was issued. Experts recommend not leaving the submission until the last day to ensure that any potential errors can be addressed in a timely manner.
