Foreign citizens who have obtained a patent to work in Russia must not forget a crucial legal obligation. If a notification of employment is not submitted to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs within two months from the date the patent was issued, the patent is automatically revoked.
Many migrants, even if they pay their patent fees on time, are unaware that their document can be cancelled due to the failure to submit this notification. According to Article 13.3 of Federal Law No. 115 "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation," failure to comply with this requirement leads to serious consequences.
If a patent is revoked for the aforementioned reason, the foreign citizen is only eligible to submit documents for a new patent after one year has passed. This restriction remains in effect even if the patent fees have been paid.
Therefore, regardless of whether they have found a job or not, patent holders are required to submit a notification of their employment to the relevant authorities within the specified two-month period. Failure to follow this rule can lead to a long-term loss of the opportunity to work legally in Russia.
