A resident of the city of Kovrov, Vladimir region, has been found guilty of facilitating illegal migration through the fictitious registration of foreign nationals. According to the court ruling, he accepted payment to falsely register 11 foreign citizens, including nationals of the Republic of Uzbekistan, at his mother's apartment. For this offense, he was sentenced to 2 years and 7 months of imprisonment in a strict-regime penal colony.
It was established that the defendant charged 1,000 rubles for each foreign national. However, none of the registered individuals actually resided at the address, and the defendant was not even acquainted with most of them. During the trial, his actions were qualified under the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation as «fictitious registration of a foreign citizen at the place of stay».
Utilizing such «services» can lead to severe legal repercussions for migrants. If it is discovered during inspections that a foreign citizen is registered at an address where they do not actually reside, their residence permit or other documents may be revoked, and they may face deportation from the country.
