What errors in obtaining Russian citizenship lead to rejection or revocation of the passport?

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs is strictly monitoring compliance with legal grounds during the citizenship acquisition process. According to the results of the first seven months of the current year, the number of rejections for citizenship applications has increased by 10 percent. More than 65 percent of rejections are related to the submission of forged, falsified documents or the provision of incorrect information.

Control has also been tightened regarding individuals who have already obtained Russian citizenship. During the reporting period, more than a thousand people were forcibly deprived of their citizenship. This was based on crimes established by the court (72 percent), failure to register for military service in a timely manner (11 percent), actions threatening national security (10 percent), and the discovery of forged documents (7 percent).

Experts remind that the provision of incorrect information can be identified not only at the application review stage but also after citizenship has been obtained. In both cases, serious legal consequences established by legislation arise.

Individuals planning to obtain citizenship or those who already hold a Russian passport are advised to pay special attention to the accuracy of the information provided and the fulfillment of legal obligations.
