Key changes effective in Russia from September 1, 2026

A number of legislative changes came into effect in Russia on September 1, 2026. Specifically, the deadline for medical examinations for foreign citizens has been shortened. Foreign nationals are now required to undergo medical check-ups within 30 days instead of 90.

Changes have also been made to labor conditions. The annual limit for overtime work has been increased from 120 to 240 hours. It is stipulated that every hour of overtime starting from the 121st hour must be paid at least at double the rate. Furthermore, a ban was introduced on setting probationary periods for women with children under 3 years old, as well as for single fathers or guardians.

There are also updates in the social sector. An opportunity has been created for men reaching the age of 64 and women reaching the age of 59 to register for a second pension under certain conditions. In addition, the use of mobile phones during classes in schools has been prohibited, and musical melodies have been introduced to replace traditional school bells.

Furthermore, the digital ruble has begun to be introduced into circulation in Russia, and citizens have been granted the right to apply to a self-exclusion registry to limit their participation in gambling. The medical examination procedure has also been updated to include additional screenings for the cardiovascular system.
