About 400,000 foreign students are studying in Russia — Sergey Lavrov

Currently, about 400,000 foreign citizens are studying in Russian higher education institutions. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his speech at the International Youth Festival held in Yekaterinburg.

The minister emphasized that Russia remains a center of quality and affordable education for the world's youth. At present, the country's higher education system is attracting foreign applicants not only through traditional quotas but also through new support systems.

New grants for talented youth

In his speech, Sergey Lavrov specifically touched upon the launch of new mechanisms to encourage foreign students.

"We are not only maintaining the number of state quotas, but we are also expanding them. At the same time, special grant mechanisms have been introduced aimed at supporting the most talented foreign students," the Russian Foreign Minister said.

This system serves to increase the scientific potential of successful students from abroad by covering their living and education expenses.

Russia as an international youth center

It should be noted that these days the city of Yekaterinburg is hosting the International Youth Festival. This major event, which runs from September 11 to September 17, is attended by about 10,000 young leaders, students, and activists from more than 190 countries around the world.

Analysts note that the steady growth in the number of foreign students in Russian universities (according to official statistics, the total figure exceeds 422,000) indicates that the competitiveness of the country's education system in the international arena remains high.
