Procedure for obtaining and extending a work patent in Russia

For citizens of Uzbekistan wishing to work in Russia under a visa-free regime, obtaining a patent is a mandatory procedure. Documents must be submitted within 30 calendar days from the date of entry into Russia to the migration departments of the Russian Interior Ministry or to multifunctional centers (MFC). The main list of documents includes a passport, migration card, registration at the place of temporary stay, medical insurance policy, a certificate of proficiency in the Russian language and Russian legislation, and a medical examination report.

Medical examinations are carried out in accredited institutions and include screening for infectious diseases, as well as examinations by a narcologist and a psychiatrist. In addition, labor migrants are required to pass an exam on the Russian language, history, and legislation. It is possible to take this exam in advance and obtain a certificate at specialized training centers in Uzbekistan, which reduces the time required for processing documents in Russia.

Patents are issued for a period of 1 to 12 months. To extend it, it is sufficient to make the fixed monthly tax payment (NDFL) on time. If the payment is delayed, the patent may be cancelled. Also, after obtaining the patent, it is required to conclude an employment contract with an employer within 2 months and notify the Russian Interior Ministry about it.

Failure to comply with migration legislation, including failure to extend the patent on time or late payments, can lead to fines, cancellation of documents, and deportation from Russia. To continue working legally, it is important to constantly monitor the registration period and work only within the permitted region.
