Number of work permits for migrants in Russia drops by 400,000

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) has released migration statistics for January-September 2024. According to the data, 1.5 million work permits were issued to foreign workers during the first nine months of the current year. For comparison, this figure stood at 1.9 million documents during the same period last year.

A patent is the primary document for working in Russia for citizens of countries with visa-free entry, such as Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. According to the statistics, the demand for this document has decreased by 400,000.

At the same time, the number of work permits for citizens of visa-regime countries (India, China, Bangladesh, Indonesia, etc.) has increased. Specifically, while 177,400 permits were issued during the same period last year, this figure reached 215,300 in the current year.

Experts attribute these changes to the approach employers take toward recruitment. Some analysts note that business representatives prefer to work with citizens of visa-regime countries to attract the qualified workers they need.
