Russia to cancel migrant patents if income is insufficient

Russia to cancel migrant patents if income is insufficient

Control over the income of foreign workers in Russia is being tightened. Starting October 1, the Tax Service began providing information on migrants' earnings to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs through a unified electronic communication system.

Now, for legal residence and employment in the country, the official income amount must not be lower than the level established taking into account regional coefficients and family composition. If a migrant's income is below this set amount, their work permit or patent will be revoked.

In case of a violation, a migrant will be able to re-obtain the right to work in Russia only after one year. Furthermore, migrants are required to make an additional payment equal to 50 percent of the patent cost for each family member living with them who is not employed, including spouses and children.

Experts note that the tax service will meticulously verify the actual salaries of foreigners to determine their ability to support their dependents. It is also proposed to strictly link the right to stay in the country to the employment contract, meaning that upon the expiration of the contract, the worker must immediately return to their home country without seeking new employment.
