In Russia, the procedure for complying with migration rules for foreigners staying in the country under a visa-free regime has been tightened. If a foreign citizen violates the rules again upon re-entering the country, including the duration of stay or the procedure for processing documents, they may be added to the registry of controlled persons.
Experts remind that the "90/365" rule applies to citizens of visa-free countries: it is prohibited to stay in Russia for more than 90 days in total within a year. Leaving the country and re-entering does not "reset" this period. It is also important to extend the validity of patents, temporary residence permits (RVP), or residence permits (VNJ) in a timely manner. Even if a document expires by just one day, there is a risk that it will be cancelled and the citizen will be added to the registry.
Caution is also required when making payments for a patent. A one-day delay in payment leads to the cancellation of the patent; it cannot be restored, and a new one can only be processed after a year. Furthermore, working without a permit, using forged documents, or violating temporary registration rules can lead to fines, deportation, and a ban on entry for up to 10 years.
Migrants are advised to always carry their passport, notarized translation, migration card, registration notification, and patent payment receipts. Visa-free migrants working in Moscow and the Moscow region are required to report information about their place of residence via the "Amina" application.
