Criminal liability for violation of migration legislation exists in Russia

The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Chechen Republic has issued a statement regarding the importance of complying with migration laws. According to the statement, individuals who organize the illegal entry of foreign citizens into Russia, their illegal stay, or transit through the country will be held criminally liable under Article 322.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

This offense is punishable by up to five years of imprisonment. If the crime is committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, by abusing official position, or for the purpose of committing a crime, the sentence may be extended to seven years, and a fine of up to 500,000 rubles may be imposed.

Furthermore, cases of fraudulent registration of foreign citizens at a place of residence without the intention of providing them with housing, solely for the purpose of profit, are under strict supervision. In accordance with Articles 322.2 and 322.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, fraudulent registration or placement on the register can lead to a prison sentence of up to three years.
