Procedure and benefits of obtaining an RVPO permit for students studying in Russia

Foreign students studying at universities in Russia can obtain a temporary residence permit for education purposes (RVPO) in just one month. This status not only grants the student the right to legally reside in Russia but also provides the opportunity to obtain a residence permit (VNJ) in the future. Furthermore, students holding an RVPO are exempt from military service in the Russian army.

To obtain the permit, applicants must submit a set of relevant documents to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. The list of required documents includes an application in duplicate, a foreign passport valid for at least 3 months with a notarized translation, two 35x45 mm photographs, and a certificate of no criminal record (with an apostille).

In addition, an extract from the enrollment order and a certificate from the dean's office, a receipt for payment of the state duty, a migration card, and a notification of registration at the place of residence are required. Medical examination results and the dactyloscopy procedure (fingerprinting) are also mandatory.

It is recommended to verify the exact details for state duty payments and document submission at regional offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This procedure allows students to resolve document-related issues more quickly during their studies and gain additional legal guarantees.
