Using forged documents: what criminal liability awaits in Russia?

Using forged documents: what criminal liability awaits in Russia?

According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Kostroma Region, a 26-year-old foreign national presented a fake passport to the migration service. During the verification process, it was discovered that the document contained signs of forgery and fake entries. The individual had been hiding in Russia to evade military service in his home country.

Police officers immediately seized the suspicious document and sent it for forensic examination. Experts confirmed that the information in the passport was not authentic. Currently, an investigation into the matter is underway.

Under Russian law, the use or production of forged documents is a serious offense. Such actions can lead not only to administrative fines but also to criminal liability under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, including imprisonment or deportation from the country.

For migrants, this case serves as an important reminder: when processing any documents, it is required to use only legal channels and provide accurate information to state authorities. Issues related to forged documents can lead to the complete loss of the right to work and reside legally in Russia in the future.
