Fake migrant registration: homeowner fined, foreigners' status may be revoked

In the Russian city of Zhigulevsk, a 29-year-old local resident has been found guilty of violating migration laws. According to investigators, between February and April of this year, the woman registered six foreign citizens at her apartment without any intention of providing them with an actual place of residence.

A criminal case was initiated following the discovery of this incident by officers from the Russian Interior Ministry's department for the city of Zhigulevsk. Despite having been previously warned about the consequences of violating migration rules, the woman committed the offense. During the trial, the defendant pleaded guilty.

The Zhigulevsk City Court, deeming the collected evidence sufficient, sentenced the woman to a fine of 150,000 rubles under Article 322.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The verdict has entered into legal force.

This case serves as an important warning for migrants: registration on paper only (fake registration) without actually residing at the address is illegal. When such registrations are uncovered, not only is the homeowner punished, but the foreign citizen's migration registration may be revoked, which can negatively impact their legal status in Russia.
