A joint report prepared by Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan has analyzed the potential consequences should Armenia's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) be suspended. This document was prepared against the backdrop of Armenia's plans to move closer to the European Union.
According to the report, if Armenia's participation in the union is suspended, labor migration conditions for its citizens will become significantly stricter. The preferential regime currently in place within the EAEU framework would be abolished, and the rules applied to citizens of third countries would be introduced for Armenian labor migrants.
These changes would primarily reinstate the requirement to obtain a patent or special permits for employment. Furthermore, quota restrictions established by other states to regulate the labor market would also be applied to Armenian citizens.
According to expert assessments, these processes could affect not only working conditions but also economic indicators. In particular, it is projected that the volume of remittances from Russia to Armenia could decrease by half, amounting to 1.85 billion dollars per year (over 153 billion rubles).
