Procedure for returning Uzbek prisoners serving sentences in Russia may be simplified

Russian Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuychenko emphasized the need to optimize procedures for returning prisoners to their home countries to serve their sentences in cooperation with CIS states. This initiative is aimed at facilitating the process for foreign prisoners to serve their sentences in the countries of their citizenship.

According to the Russian Ministry of Justice, the main goal is to make interdepartmental agreements and the prisoner transfer process more efficient, precise, and transparent. Systematic work is currently underway in this direction.

These changes may also affect the process of returning Uzbek prisoners serving sentences in Russia to their homeland. If the new procedure is implemented, it is expected that the exchange of documents and the processing time related to the extradition of prisoners or the change of the place of serving sentences will be reduced.
