Proposal to change admission priority for Russian schools and kindergartens

Proposal to change admission priority for Russian schools and kindergartens

Representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) have put forward an initiative to establish a priority right for the children of Russian citizens to be enrolled in the country's educational institutions. Leonid Slutsky, the head of the party faction, has sent a corresponding letter to the Russian Ministry of Education.

Maria Voropaeva, an LDPR deputy in the Moscow City Duma, noted that this proposal is aimed at reducing waiting lists in schools and kindergartens and increasing the accessibility of educational institutions for the local population. According to the deputy, in 2024, about 13,000 children in Russia were unable to secure spots in preschool educational institutions.

Under the proposal, it is intended to legally establish the right of priority admission to educational institutions for the children of Russian citizens, particularly those from large families. It is also proposed to introduce a procedure where children of foreign citizens would be admitted only if there are vacant spots available.

At present, this initiative is in the proposal stage and does not have legal force. The final decision on whether the admission procedure for migrants living in Russia will change must be reviewed by the relevant state authorities.
