Russia proposes making social services for migrants fee-based

Representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) have initiated amendments to the federal law "On the Fundamentals of Social Services for Citizens." As reported on August 27, the bill proposes that social services be provided to foreign citizens exclusively on a paid basis.

According to the proposed changes, social-domestic and social-medical services will no longer be provided to foreigners free of charge. Exceptions may only be made in cases stipulated by international treaties to which Russia is a party. The authors of the bill explain this measure by the need to reduce the burden on regional budgets and ensure targeted social assistance.

According to party leader Leonid Slutsky, the initiative is aimed at the efficient use of budget funds and the regulation of the social system. The authors of the bill emphasized that these changes will serve to ensure priority in the provision of social services to Russian citizens.

It is worth noting that the document is currently in the draft stage, and no specific deadlines for its adoption or entry into force have been set. Migrants working and living in Russia are advised to monitor the discussion process regarding this initiative.
