Ruble exchange rate fluctuations in Russia: Experts explain what to expect

With the start of the autumn season, significant changes in the national currency exchange rate are being observed in Russia. According to official data, the dollar exchange rate rose from 79 to 85 rubles over the month, while the euro increased from 91 to 99 rubles. Alexander Safonov, a professor at the Financial University, notes that this situation is linked to the interests of exporters and the need to balance the federal budget.

According to the expert, a lower exchange rate is beneficial for companies exporting oil, gas, and other raw materials. This allows them to cover costs and maintain profitability. Furthermore, the rising demand for foreign currency among the population is putting additional pressure on the exchange rate.

In the near future, there are no grounds for the ruble to quickly return to its July levels. Experts predict that the dollar exchange rate will remain in the range of 85–90 rubles in the coming weeks. Depending on market conditions, fluctuations of 1–3 rubles are possible.

Regarding currency exchange for ordinary citizens, experts advise caution. Firstly, additional costs may arise due to bank commissions when purchasing cash currency. If the funds are not intended for long-term investment, buying foreign currency may not always be profitable.
