The Shuya City Court, based on a lawsuit filed by the prosecutor's office, declared the activities of the "Religious Organization of Muslims of the City of Ivanovo, Ivanovo Region" (headed by Fyarit Lyapin) illegal. The organization had been using the bus station building located at 4 Vokzalnaya Square, Shuya, as well as a buffet and the adjacent land, as a site for conducting religious rites and prayers (namaz) of a mass and public nature for an unlimited circle of people.
This building is adjacent to the railway station and platform in Shuya, is located on railway territory, and is currently not being used for its intended purpose as a bus station.
The Ivanovo Muslim organization purchased this land and building from the Russian Railways (RZD) company. Subsequently, the facilities were leased to an individual named Burkhoniddinzoda Said, who calls himself an imam. He had been organizing prayers and discussions with youth there for migrants from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
In court, the defendants argued that the prosecutor's office had no right to file such a lawsuit and that what they do on their private property and in their buildings is no one else's business. However, the court still found this religious activity to be illegal and banned it.
