A Moscow court has banned the use of phrases such as "Slavs only" in housing rental and roommate search advertisements. According to the court's ruling, information of this nature contains elements of extremism and leads to the discrimination of citizens based on their nationality.
The legal proceedings were initiated following inspections conducted by the prosecutor's office. Law enforcement agencies identified advertisements on online platforms that imposed restrictions based on national origin. As a result, the dissemination of such information was officially declared illegal within Russia, and it has been removed from public access.
Court representatives explained that discriminating against a person based on race or nationality, or promoting the superiority of any group, is contrary to the law. This decision is aimed at ensuring equal rights in the rental market, and any future advertisements that segregate based on national origin will be prohibited.
Previously, courts had also declared job advertisements intended only for citizens of specific countries to be illegal. Experts note that such court rulings serve as a legal basis for combating discrimination against migrants in the process of finding housing and employment.
