The Russian Ministry of Digital Development plans to simplify the procedure for verifying accounts on the 'Gosuslugi' portal for foreign citizens. According to the plan, users will be able to verify their identity through biometric identification without visiting multifunctional centers (MFCs) or banks.
Under the new procedure, before traveling to Russia, a foreign citizen will need to register their biometric data in the 'ruID' application and provide details about their visit. Upon crossing the state border, as in the previous procedure, the person will be issued a SNILS, and an unverified account will be created on 'Gosuslugi'.
After that, the identity verification process using biometrics will be carried out. It will be enough for the user to look into the camera via the application, and if the data matches, the account status will automatically change to 'verified'.
These changes will significantly facilitate migrants' access to digital government services. In particular, it will become possible to register SIM cards using a verified account without the need to visit additional offices.
