Homeowner in Russia faces trial over fictitious registration of two foreigners

In the Russian city of Bogotol, a criminal case has been initiated against a 63-year-old pensioner. In September of this year, she submitted documents to the passport office to register two foreign citizens at her place of residence. However, during an inspection conducted by police officers, it was determined that the foreigners do not reside at the specified address.

A criminal case has been opened regarding this incident under the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation concerning the "fictitious registration of a foreign citizen or stateless person at the place of stay in the Russian Federation." Those found guilty under this article face up to five years in prison.

Police officers highlighted the main signs of fictitious registration. These include: providing knowingly false information or forged documents, the lack of intent by the foreigner to actually reside at the address, and the lack of intent by the property owner to provide the premises for actual use.

We remind you that registration for foreign citizens is mandatory for legal stay and employment within the territory of Russia. Experts urge homeowners to comply with legal requirements and refrain from engaging in fictitious registration.
