LDPR deputy reports threats following statement on migration
Maria Voropaeva, a deputy of the Moscow City Duma from the LDPR party, has sent an appeal to the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation requesting an investigation into threats made against her following her public statements on tightening migration policy, as well as the activities of internet resources offering foreign citizens assistance in obtaining Russian documents. In the event that signs of a crime are identified, Voropaeva has demanded the initiation of a criminal case.
According to the politician, the investigation conducted by the Investigative Committee (Sledkom) will allow not only for the identification of the authors of the threats and holding them accountable under the law, but also for identifying and stopping potential illegal schemes for processing migration and other documents that could be used for the illegal stay of foreign citizens in Russia.
The corresponding appeal was sent to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin, on September 16, 2026. "Following a series of my statements regarding the need to exclude migrants from various support measures, including benefits for large families, threats posing a danger to my life and health began to appear on social media," stated Maria Voropaeva.
According to the deputy, she links the emergence of such messages to her public speeches on migration policy issues. Voropaeva believes that the authors of the threats were attempting to exert pressure on her. Following this, as the deputy explained, a monitoring of open internet sources was conducted. "This situation became a reason to carefully study the environment in which such threats are spread. We monitored open sources and identified at least 20 Telegram bots, channels, and other resources promising foreigners the processing of Russian documents. This may involve bypassing mandatory state checks. I have appealed to Alexander Bastrykin with a demand to identify the authors of the threats, check the activities of intermediaries, and initiate a criminal case if there is evidence of a crime. Russia is not a walk-through courtyard, and state documents are not merchandise. Everyone who tries to intimidate people for their position or earns money from the legalization of migrants must be found and punished," said Voropaeva.
Voropaeva noted that today such resources offer foreign citizens the processing or extension of registration, patents, migration cards, temporary residence permits (RVP), permanent residence permits (VNJ), and the acquisition of Russian passports. The list also includes SNILS, INN, employment contracts, medical documents, driver's licenses, and diplomas. Separately, assistance in obtaining quotas and checking for entry bans or deportation is offered. After a client's first inquiry, they are transferred to private correspondence in messengers, where the procedures and grounds for document processing are not disclosed in advance.
