Russia welcomes foreign citizens arriving for work and study, says Maria Zakharova.

Official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova announced on September 16 that the country is introducing simple and clear rules for legal stay for foreigners arriving for work or study. According to her, measures are being taken to simplify administrative procedures, ensure the transparency of work processes through digital services, and protect against illegal schemes by employers.

At the same time, control over migration legislation in Russia is intensifying. In particular, starting September 1, the deadline for mandatory medical examinations for foreigners staying in Russia for more than three months has been reduced from 90 to 30 days. This requires migrants to be prompt in processing their documents.

Furthermore, a new financial obligation for labor migrants is expected to be introduced starting January 1, 2027. According to a statement by Andrey Kikot, head of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on September 10, working migrants will be required to pay a tax for each non-working family member living in Russia. This measure is being implemented within the framework of the state migration policy concept, which was developed with the aim of limiting the presence of migrants' family members in the country.
