Plans are underway to introduce a unified biometric system to monitor the entry of foreign citizens into the Russian Federation and their movement within the country. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev in an interview with the Vedomosti newspaper.
The main goal of the new system is to keep records of foreigners staying in Russia and to strengthen mechanisms for monitoring their movements. This innovation aims to digitize the process of migrant entry into the country and the control of internal migration.
The official statement emphasizes that Russia's migration policy is not directed against foreigners who comply with the laws and respect the values of local society. However, the expected biometric control may become mandatory for all foreign citizens, including labor migrants.
For now, details regarding when the system will be fully operational and what technical requirements it will include are still under development. Migrants are advised to keep their documents and personal data in order and to monitor changes in legislation.
