New financial restrictions and control measures for migrants proposed in Russia

New financial restrictions and control measures for migrants proposed in Russia

During the discussion of the federal budget draft in the Russian State Duma, representatives of the LDPR party proposed reviewing expenditures on social assistance, benefits, and medical services provided to migrants. The party expressed its opposition to supporting migrants with budget funds, emphasizing the need to prioritize the local population.

To monitor the employment of migrants and bring their income out of the "shadows," a new bill has been introduced. According to the bill, it is planned to make the payment of wages to foreign workers mandatory exclusively through their personal bank accounts. This measure is aimed at tracking the actual income of workers and monitoring tax payments.

An initiative to introduce a mandatory fee on remittances sent by migrants abroad was also put forward. Party representatives noted that in order to reduce the Russian economy's dependence on foreign labor, more attention should be paid to the robotization of enterprises and the training of local personnel.

These proposals are expected to be reviewed during the preparation of the budget draft for the second reading. If these initiatives are adopted, the procedures for receiving income and the social security system for foreign citizens working in Russia may undergo changes.
